Behind the brass wheel

Two people.
One small ferry.
A river of questions.

Rufus and Tilly greet an enormous bass from the ferry railing
01

Rufus

Skipper, kettle minder, keeper of improbable spare parts.

Rufus believes an object becomes useful eventually, provided you carry it for long enough. His coat pockets contain a hinge, a smooth pebble and a key he is sure will fit something splendid.

He is happiest when a journey takes longer than planned for a good reason. A conversation with a bass is nearly always a good reason.

02

Tilly

Navigator, question collector, finder of the obvious thing.

Tilly notices the small detail in the enormous scene: the shaded lamp, the size of a teacup, the borrowed star on a fish’s head. Her goggles are excellent for looking, but she says listening does most of the work.

She keeps the trunk organised by the adventures its objects might begin. Rufus keeps rearranging it by biscuit proximity.

Welcome aboard
the Little Perhaps.

The ferry is fictional, the river is impossible and the fish are wonderfully out of scale. Skipper’s Oddments is an original illustrated story collection with small interactive choices.

There is no real voyage to book, no fishing competition and no prize to win. You are welcome to read at your own pace, revisit a branch or leave the trunk half packed.
